CSC 103: How Computers Work
Lab 2: Computer Memory
Not to be turned in, but make sure I check you off at the end of class!
Summary:
You will work with a partner on ONE computer to build two
different circuit representations of memory.
Part 1: Memory Flip-flop
For this part, implement the circuit from class on Monday in Logisim
(see class notes). Experiment with "poking" the inputs randomly, then
settling down to both 1's. Do this a few times and observe/discuss the
results with your partner. Make sure they match our theoretical
predictions from Monday!
Part 2: 1-bit Memory
Now do the same thing for the circuit discussed today. Discuss the
difference from the circuit above with your partner. Can you think of
some pros and cons for each circuit?
To finish up
After you're done, make sure I check you and your partner off!
