Extra Credit Option: Blender extensions

Due: Thursday, Dec. 10, 11:59pm by email

The goal of this extra credit is to help you explore some extension topics in Blender, and/or add to the public knowledge base of Blender though your own tutorial. Maximum of +5pts even if you do both options.

Option 1: do a Blender tutorial (max +2pts)

You've probably already encountered a variety of video tutorials on Blender. For this part, choose one of the following topics, then complete the video tutorial. If you'd like to do a type of tutorial not listed here, email me and we can discuss.

Topics

  • Realistic water
  • Reflection
  • Character animation
  • Randomness
Requirements

  • Complete the tutorial in full on your own. I'll give more credit for a more difficult/involved tutorial, and less for a simpler or incomplete tutorial (+2 only for something very advanced).

  • Email me your finished product (.blend file), and a link to the video or tutorial you completed.

Option 2: make your own Blender tutorial (max +5pts)

This part is pretty open ended, but the goal is that you'll create your own Blender video tutorial on a topic of your choice.

Requirements

  • Your tutorial should not replicate an existing tutorial (I'll check!) It should be on a topic that you can't find a good tutorial for, something you've experimented with and want to share.

  • Your tutorial must have video and audio (a voiceover with you describing your steps as you do them). Screen capture is built in on Mac through QuickTime, and here are some options for free programs to do this on Windows:

  • You must upload your tutorial to YouTube or another mainstream video site such that it is publicly available and you can send me the link. The idea for this part is that you're contributing to the computer graphics knowledge base and making it easier for others to learn interesting features of Blender.

  • I'll give more credit for a very sophisticated and/or thorough tutorial. It doesn't have to be very difficult though, it could be something you struggled with initially that didn't have very good documentation. Or it could be an advanced topic described in words, but with no video tutorial.

  • I would encourage you to do this option only if you'll be happy/proud to have your video on the internet indefinitely.

  • Email me a link once you're finished!
